Trower live 1980 WOW!
« on: June 05, 2018, 10:54:40 pm »
Robin, Bill Lordan, Jimmy Dewar on tour for the Victims of the Fury album. I thought I've seen all his live stuff.  This is absolutely awesome stuff.  Rhythm spot on, Jimmy with THAT voice, and Robin tearing it UP! That finger vibrato never ceases to amaze me... Using the flangers is a cool twist to his sound. What a show.  I've still got the tour t-shirt for this!  Still fits! someone else...

That is a very cool video!  THANKS for sharing it!

I absolutely love the tone he is getting when he dials it down around 29:15 into it.  What an incredibly sweet mellow tone.

That's awesome.
I will add this to my "Watch later" list so I can watch it on my 60" LED and listen on my Theatre sound system

You guys ever watch "Rig rundowns" on youtube?

Haha!  He was fanboying so much he could hardly get the questions out!   Robin is a humble dude.  When I met him back in the late 80's he was really cool so it didn't come with age, he was always like that.

He was using those 50's when I saw him a couple years ago with my daughter.  Stage volume was pretty brutal.  I've got some Mike Fuller stuff.  He does exceptional work - especially his Custom Shop stuff.

Two great quotes on that one:

"...some electronics guy or whatever it was I think just built me an amplifier to drive the amps more" (aka boost pedal)

"on the shoulders of giants...all of us (while looking straight into the camera)

Actually that boost was a little more involved. His electronics guy built him a custom pedal board around the In City Dreams era. It's function was also the basis for a pedal board I built.  There were individual boost/cut at each pedal. Total bypass. You could set it up for no loss in volume when you kick in an effect or a preset volume and a splitter to allow an effect to play out effectively doubling the signal at times. Pretty cool, but mine had some noise and was a rack mount.  Robin's was all in his floor pedal board. Robin's electronics guy also built him a SS amp that drove a cabinet and also had a line out to hit the front of his Marshalls and Fenders (at that time). I read all this in an old Guitar Player Magazine interview from the 70's. It's easier to say what he said than try to explain what I just said!

I would also say Robin qualifies as one of those giants now.
