amp chassis in qty?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Where does everyone get there amp chassis? I want to start producing head cabs and I want to include a blank chassis with them. I want to buy in small quantities maybe 5 or 6 at a time I am growing tired of inflating prices and slow delivery times it seems that as soon as they see your increasing your orders so does the price per chassis.

i recently emailed mike at
www.komboking.worldbreak.com asking about 22x8x2.5 "standard head" chassis. he said $40 a pop + shipping. that seems reasonable. tho i think aluminum he uses is a bit thinner then the usual .09.

I also have found some shops difficult to deal with. For instance the first few chassis are beautiful, then after that quality goes out the window. If prices are going up it may be because you are paying for rejects and extras. For instance if the order was for 100 pieces they would make 120 and keep 20. Sometimes I could talk them into shipping the extras for a small fee; other times all I had to do was go get them. Sometimes an order would be shipped that used old drawings that I thought we had destroyed. It's less hassle to buy chassis from established vendors such as Doug.

I have been using Komboking but he just told me that he is also raising his prices, in the beginning all these "chassis builders" were doing it for fun and beer money and were competing against each other to see who was going to have the lowest price but I guess like anything else things change, people get busy and more equals more then Wow! I'm making a ton of money so I better raise my price so I can make a ton more money...It's the american way cant blame someone for making money afterall thats what I want to do also, I can get 'em at $5 a piece if I buy 1000 but I only want 5 or 6 a month......well I am done ranting.

Just a PS I dont want to sound like I'm knocking Komboking at $40 a chassis is a good price and his product is good. I just wanted to clarify that....

I am using a local metal shop who is very reasonable for quantities of 10, but they require a CAD drawing to work off of. They take about 12-14 business days to turn an order. The expensive part is soldering, so I have a design that eliminates the solder joints and is rock solid when it is installed. Where do you live? I bet you could find a local shop to do it for less than $40 a chassis and you could save the shipping.

Could you share your solderless design? I have Autocad so a DWG file is fine. email : francisontubes@vanroode.ca

I also would be interested to see your design...

I made my chassis out of galvanized sheet metal, but the soldering wraps always the metal sheet, I now made some new chassis out of inox...

Try a metal shop that specializes in electronic sheetmetal enclosures. They are of coarse more geared towards manufacturing these smaller parts. I got a quote from a metal shop who specializes in electronic enclosures. For 5 champ style chassis i got a price of $25 a piece. This includes zinc finishing. Also if your not sure of the design (ie: how to make the welds) just ask and they'll glady tell you the easiest (fastest) way to fabricate it.
Could i also get a look at the solderless design?? Sounds interesting. j.rogers@shaw.ca

I built a non weld type of chassis for my homebuilt custom champ and it turned out great. just used sheetmetal screws and loctite. Very solid and no buzz even when not installed in cabinet. But i think the next chassis i will use machine screws and lock nuts just for peace of mind. :>

Ted Weber@Weber vst Does Quantities of 25 or more at $20-25 per unit. I think there is an initial setup fee but it's not much-
