Cleaning up an old working PT
« on: July 12, 2018, 10:05:41 pm »
I have a few AO43’s PTs that are a little rough, top cover bent, laminate on sides rusty. What’s the best way to clean up these old PTs?  Some old PTs seem to have a light coat of wax on the them.     Thanks in advance, al
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I have preformed this task a few times.  It is suggested to not remove the rust from the laminates edge.  I remove the covers and hammer back in shape.  If the leads are cracking, I will replace these with traditional colored stranded teflon wire.  I bought Red, Red Striped Yellow, Yellow, well you get the idea.
That coating can be dipped Shellac, and I see lacquer.  Keeps buzzing away.  Anyway, I take apart only what is necessary to make it look new and I do (the horror) buff off the rust and re-coat everything with enamel.  I am restoring radios when I do this and they are not really taxing the transformer.
