Custom Faceplates and Nameplates
« on: November 17, 2018, 11:50:15 am »
Hello all, I want to let you know about a company I just dealt with to design new custom faceplates and nameplate for my modified 5E3. The company is called Precision Design, and the owner is Sandy Henry - simplifysandy@aol.com. Sandy supplies graphics for Weber, so she's GOOD. I had the original 5E3 graphics layout, which matches the chassis I got from Doug. I did a markup of my needed lettering and holes, sent it to her, and in less than a week they arrived. What an efficient supplier! I would recommend Sandy to anyone building a custom amp.

There was a $60.00 art setup up fee, and the front and back faceplates were $30.00 each. I also had a name tag made, 1' X 3" gold with brown lettering like the old Fender Deluxe Tweed, for $30.00. So a total of $145.00.

This is free but takes some time to figure it out. You can print on heavy paper then cover it with thin Plexiglass material from Home depot. Or better, take the file to a good print shop have it printed on heavy weight paper, then cover, works much better than home printer and cheap too.

Just ordered some logos/nameplates from Sandy.  Was able to send artwork in eps format so no set-up charge.  Pricing was great.  First contacted her yesterday morning, just got word they are done and on their way.

Will post a follow up when I get them but so far seems awesome.

If you need to be more budget-y, Sluckey had a great faceplate trick on his vintage Vox build. I think he made a reverse image transparency, then spray painted the back. Flip it over and voila; a shiny plastic layer on the outside, and all your graphics safe on the inside. I may have the details wrong, but that's the gist. Looked to me like it would work great any time you wanted faceplates and type in colors - not so much for metallic finishes.

Wow! Where did you get that idea? Certainly not from me. My original faceplate for the AC-15 was just a straight up cheap ink jet printer on glossy photo paper. Later on a professional sign shop printed my final face plate on a sheet of aluminum sign material. That's the only real faceplate I have. Others are just dry transfer letters or DYMO labels. Now that's cheap!   :icon_biggrin:
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

+1 on Precision Design.
Sandy is awesome. I have her do all my faceplates. SHe is super conscientious, a stickler for detail, and best yet INCREDIBLY fast. If I send her a rough drawing that has no ambiguity on it, she can whip out a proof by the end of that day or the next, usually, and have it in the mail the day after. Highly recommended.

I just saw this thread. Do you have a link for Precision Design?

Thanks,

Scott

This works pretty well. A friend told me how to do it and I just followed his process. Long time ago but I used some free software to do the artwork. I bought the special paper and printed on it. Kind of like old model airplane decals in a bowl of water. Stick to the back side of the plexi plate then gold spray paint. If I did it again I'd try to just have some shop do the black graphics in vinyl. The water decals were kind of a pain. I think they shrunk a little.
