Need a pick guard cut for Custom shop
« on: December 13, 2018, 08:59:38 am »
I know this is the tube forum but I'm sure some of you may know of guitar parts sellers too.

I'm getting a Fender Custom Shop 59 P that comes stock with a gold guard. I want to get a "period correct" T shell guard that has a early 60's pattern. Not even Fender has the correct patterns. The are mainly dark and they don't have that reddish/ burgundy pattern

There is one seller out there, Spitfire. I could go there but their price are real high. Most of their customers are true pre-CBS owners. The patterns are good and somewhat acceptable by the real historians out there.

Thanks

Thanks but WD's are ok but not suitable for true vintage or you really want more of a vintage vibe. .

Here's the Spitfire site and you'll see at I mean-

Warmoth guitar parts offers custom tortoise shell pick guards, but the pattern may not be what you are looking for.

Detemple guitars has some different looking tort on some of their guitars, not sure if they sell those pickguards individually.

Buy some tortise shell laminate stock of desired color pattern and thickness which is widely available and then have a local sign shop or cnc shop cut it out using your gold one as a design template.

OK.  I had used WD once in order to get a plain creme LP pick guard that had some dimensional vagaries.  I noted at the time that they have a lot of color / pattern choices.

However ...

If you're looking for vintage-correct, collector-grade material, you may have to spend some $$$'s.  We acoustic players know that concept, too.

Good luck.
