Fender Acoustic Amp 200
« on: December 26, 2018, 11:17:51 am »
So a guy brings me a Fender Acoustic Amp 200 with a blown speaker ( it is a 2x8 ) and wants me to help him out..  So  I start researching and come to the conclusion that Fender does not provide one iota of support for this product.  Wonderful....

I emailed Fender support.. They carry no replacement speakers. I emailed Fender support..  they said the schematic for the product is not available.  Wonderful x2.

Does anyone have a schematic for said amplifier?

It has 2 eight inch four ohm speakers. Each speaker has two wires coming from the amp chassis inside the cabinet.  I haven't taken the amp apart to look into the chassis.  The amp says it's rated at 4 ohms.
So, with two wires going to two 4 ohm speakers what would you think the output transformer looked like electrically? Or do you think it uses two OT's?

Guess I could tear into it...

Tore into it..  it has 2 toroidal output transformers.  Little dinky things..

What do you think of using two 8 ohm speakers instead of 4 ohm?

I found this information on them.. scroll down in the article

It can't be a tube amp, $550 for 200 Watts, speakers, nice box, and digital frills.

So why would it have output transformers?

I can't think of many/any Eight-Inch speakers can take 100W each, even for acoustic guitar.

Oh crap, that was a blond moment. ..  that's true PRR it's a SS amp..   I should have taken pics of the inside while there.. Where the speakers connect there are what looks like two pairs of toroid transformers..  Now I am wondering what they are. I guess they might be heat sinks for some power transistors?

Well I replaced both both speakers with two 8 ohm speakers with whizzer cones..  similar to original.  Goldwood GW-8003.
