Danny Kalb & Bob Dylan
« on: January 27, 2019, 07:10:51 pm »
My buddy Danny Kalb (Blues Project) and Bob Dylan, early 60's -- I think a live radio show in NYC. Recently found tape.

Kalb on guitar & some vocals; Dylan on harmonica & lead vocal

That was VERY VERY cool!  I sure enjoyed that.  THANKS for sharing!  I liked early Dylan a lot and to have your friend playing guitar and doing some vocals with him ………… sure was nice.

Jeff

It seems that Dylan can play a blues harp which was not so evident in his harmonica playing in later years.

In the early 60's when Dylan was first heading East, he crashed in Madison, Wisconsin, with Ron Radosh (interesting guy to google). Ron didn't have enough room so he hooked Dylan up with Danny Kalb who was then a student at the University of Wisconsin. Dylan stayed with Danny for about a week.  Danny & Dylan jammed informally during that week and the music was taped by a friend.  The tapes have recently resurfaced, and the hope is that they will be acquired soon by the Dylan Foundation for public release.

Danny dropped-out of the University and joined the folk scene in Greenwich Village under the tutelage of Dave Van Ronk.  Danny soon emerged as a guitar virtuoso in a number of blues / folk groups (including a jug band with Van Ronk), and then became a founding member of the Blues Project.

The recording above was made when Danny & Dylan were rising stars in Greenwich Village.
