V. 53 on a Mac
« on: February 09, 2019, 05:05:40 pm »
After V. 53 update, I lost my building blocks, and when I try to open recent files, there are none.

Run 52 version and see if they are there

You can download one of the .zip file versions and run the .exe inside without installing it

My building blocks all stayed in place in 53

Thanks Doug. I did go back to V. 52, and still no building blocks or recent files. I can't find where the files (schematics) are saved.

On windows, the config file that holds all the building blocks and variants is shown in my screen shot
It is always a good idea to make a backup copy of your config file before upgrading versions

I think MAC's are pretty much the same for that location?
The user documents folder then the .diylc folder

In my case it is here - C:\Users\DLH\.diylc

The .diy files you created can be anywhere you have decided to save them
Mine are all saved on an external hard drive on my network so they are available to all PC's on my network

Still dead in the water. I've got 10 DIYLC apps, and I found my latest schematic. It was not highlighted, so I couldn't bring it up. Also, I had another file saved, and it had the ,diy extension. My latest files don't show a .diy file extension. Any thoughts?

The four saved files I have are in the diy schematics folder. The one from my most recent save has as type "text file", and when I open it it is a text file. The one I saved back in January has a diy extension and opens up fine.

Doug, I went to computer on my Mac, and the files that had no extension I renamed with .diy extension and it works in V. 53. I still have no building blocks.

If you can open the files that have building blocks in them, you can just make them a building block again

You have to make sure when you save files that you are naming them correctly
That includes the .diy extension

Mine always save as .diy, but I saw a post about this here
https://github.com/bancika/diy-layout-creator/issues/376

You also should make a folder somewhere and always save your .diy files to that same folder
I save all mine to a shared network hard drive
Y:\My Documents\DIYLC

You should know where your config file is and always make a copy of it before doing a major update like 53
I made a shortcut on my desktop to that folder so I can get to it quickly

Doug, I saw that hyperlink last night, and I guess that's what mine we're doing. Like I said, I found the files on my computer, and they had no .diy extension. Should be fixed, according to Bancika, in the next version. I looked on everyone of the DIYLC versions I had stored, and none of them had the building blocks. I did also report this to Bancika.

That GIThub post was an old post and many versions ago

All you have to do when you save a new file is just make sure that it has the .diy extension

Do Save As when you save a new file

That way you can make sure that the file has .diy extension

When you open an existing .diy file, it should save it under the same exact name again

Well I added this to all formats.  Works well, Mac, Windows Pro, Windows 10.  Even runs under Mac Mojavi.  Very straightforward and I did download all of the items Doug posted.  Seems Rob contributed too.  Thanks, this always makes using something much better.

Speaking of this, after a bit of reading it seems other DIY folks like pedal builders are using this.  I would suspect somewhere to be a large download acccess to predrawn schematics and layouts.  Anyone seen any.  I am a looking.
