JBL D131 Speakers?
« on: April 19, 2019, 08:24:29 pm »
I picked these up for $20 for the pair. One seems blown, I can hear the voice coil rubbing when I push on the cone. The other might be good, I will probably test it with a 15w amp tomorrow.

From what I have read, the D131 was rated for about 30W and the famous D120 was basically the same thing but with a slightly bigger gap around the voice coil.

If I put a D120 recone kit on to the D131, will that effectively make it a D120? Is the voice coil gap determined by the hole in the frame/magnet, or by the coil itself? What about the impedance? Can I turn a 16ohm speaker into an 8ohm speaker with the right recone kit?

I emailed the Broun Sound guy who offered to recone with hemp for $200 each. Seems pretty pricey. Thoughts?

Can these handle a Twin Reverb if I recone them? I have a drip edge Twin and I feel like maybe it isn't heavy enough /s

rated for about 30W
didn't go webin for data, but the few twins I've worked on where in the 80+W range, 60W for a long night might negate your new cone job  :dontknow:
Went Class C for efficiency

Yeah thats why I am wondering if the D120 recone kit would increase the power handling. I know that D120s were used in Twins.
