Bumblebee confusion
« on: July 12, 2019, 09:38:38 pm »
Hi, and sorry if this seems ridiculous, but I have this little 6AQ5 PP power amp with what looks like a bumblebee in it. But the only reading I can get off it is 0.503k, making it a resistor, not a cap. And the reading doesn't match the color code in any respect. Have I gone so nuts I don't know how to use my meter?
I've had no luck finding a schematic for the amp: Model Magnavox CR740AA. So far, none to be found.
Thanks for any help.
With gratitude.

That's a cap and you probably have to remove it from the circuit to get a proper reading.
Does your meter have a capacitance setting?...some don't

It should be there to block DC so if it's doing it's job you can leave it alone.

That cap is rated .1µF 20% 200V
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Thanks guys. Much appreciated. I do have a cap setting on my meter, but it wouldn't read it for some reason - probably as you say, I'd need to remove it from the circuit to get a reading.
With gratitude.
