How many techs here were at Woodstock

I grew up near there well after the fact. Was able to see CSNY for their second ever show at woodstock when they did the reunion gig at bethel woods.

There was Woodstock,  Atlanta Pop Festival, Texas Pop Festival and New Orleans Pop Festival that summer.  Many of the same musicians attended.   I was at the New Orleans Pop Festival. Which I think was within a couple of weeks of Woodstock.

Wow!  Janis, Santana (when they were good), CTA, Iron Butterfly, The Byrds.  Most of those groups had an hour - which means 45 minutes with stage change.  That's not even warmed up!  Certainly different back then.

I did uncover some home movies of Jeff dancing at this show.....

No, refunds...? When I got there, had to walk a mile to get to the fences, parked on the road. No fences, they were torn down, free for me. Glad I had that twenty dollar bill, lost the people I came with, ended up in NYC, bare feet, full of mud with a ticket stub from that twenty in my pocket for Philadelphia. I'd say a pretty wild trip, watched Hendrix play Star Spangle Banner standing at the wall about twenty feet from him, he was good. Played that strat like it was an extension of his arm, never look at the fret board either. Memories..., at 18.

Not quite old enough here... But still felt the vibe
I was in upstate NY away at a summer camp, just turned 14.  I remember one of the counselors left to go there ( I think he was the one that brought the brown acid      Wasn't quite sure what it was all about, but it was the beginning of so much

Had to break out  the 40th Anniversary Woodstock collectors bluray  last night (complete with suede fringe box and patch)
Almost forgot how great some of this was, like the Who / Summertime Blues  (man - Townsend got some serious air back then! somehow he got that SG /P-90's back - not if I was there!)

Then again, there was Sha Na Na (WTF?).    Guess they got the call when led zep turned down the gig.

Yeah, I break out the directors cut video from time to time as well. That movie was a great snapshot. Camera work was pretty awesome for what I understood were amateurs.  The shot of Alvin Lee at night where you can see his breath - too fricken cool!  Townsend always said it was a %&*!ing !@#$hole and cant understand the "supposed importance" of the event.  Brits......   Maybe if he had a draft card with his name on it he would have a better perspective. They did put on a great show.  See me feel me with Townsend cranking is pretty cool!  Santana fresh and new - wow!  Arlo Guthrie (I cant help but think of the SNL skit where Bob Dylan visited Arlo in the hospital with accentuated errrs and arrrrs, it was hilarious!). I think one of Joe Cocker's finest moments, Janis too. One of my all time fav bands, Sly and the family Stone.  And then the bands that didn't make the movie like Mountain and Johnny Winter - WOW what a lineup. 

If you watch the movie Jimi Plays Berkley there is a scene at the beginning were there are protests at the theaters that were showing the movie Woodstock.  The protestors wanted free admission because "we were there" (uh haaaa.....) "and we made the movie. We made the event what it was, so we should get in free since we didn't get paid."  OMG!  A bunch of millennials time traveled back in time!!!!!!

The boyfriend of a girl I used to work with a long long....long time ago was there and had pics to prove it.  He had some great stories.  Dude, did you get to see the entire event?  I know the crowd was few by the time Jimi hit the stage.

Sly and the Family Stones blew me away, l think they played right before Hendrix, he came on at like 8 AM. Sly played for a good while, they were fantastic, l wasn’t too up on them but they rocked. Yeah, l got there before any music started, stayed till the end. But by that time l hadn’t slept in three days but l had a little “help from my friends”. I was in pretty bad shape. Water was a hard commodity to find, l got spiked when some dudes were drinking what was water in a wine bottle. Water it wasn’t, after a few swigs and a few hours l was hallucinating but l didn’t know it at the time, l lost it for a while and kind of freaked out. Yeah l was there for the whole thing, never forget it. Always wanted to write a book about those three days, still remember everything. Maybe some day l will. Hey Richie, l read your posts, were you in a group, seems like it. What’s with the  fire scene clip...?

You need to just start writing.  Fire up the word processor and throw a few things down and then come back and add as the memories come back.  You can organize later.  You'll be surprised how much you will accumulate over time.  "Some day" may never come if you don't take that first step!  That would be priceless!

Yeah I was in a touring Christian band for a few years and then quite a few local bands.  This was back in the 70's early 80's.  Got some college and had to get a real job.  Got into horses, got married, had kids, back to college, sold my Major and two stacks, regretted it, bought another Major.  My life was changed when I went to see Deep Purple in early '73 I believe.  I had to get Ritchie's sound.  I sold two small box 50's and bought my first Major.  The fire scene was Deep Purple playing at the California Jam in 74.  Ritchie's speaker cabs were loaded with flash powder and gasoline and the road crew blew them up.  Ritchie threw two cabinets and Major off the stage, as well as a few strats after bashing the TV camera.  I could have bought the amp he threw off the stage from Ritchie's amp tech a few years ago for $15K.  Another great friend that we lost a few years ago.  He said there was only one broken tube and a few dents in the cabinet.  Ritchie used it for another 15 years with Rainbow and the Deep Purple reunion.  Built Ford tough!  Always dabbled in electronics and repaired all my friends amps. I found Doug's old forum like 20 years ago and learned so much and started building.  Not building any more but still come here to learn.  Made lots of great friends here who mercilessly roast me for not building or playing out any more - and I never EVER did anything to deserve it.   As far as I am concerned, this is the coolest place on the web.  So many knowledgeable folks who come here every day and share their expertise.  I am just here for the comic relief and to keep Silvergun and Jojo in check.

One of the first first songs I learned: Smoke On The Water. You're right "start writing", I've got a great story from Woodstock 69, it all started with that water swig...! Funny how I remember all of that part and not as much as before...? It's so vivid in my mind, over 12 hours at least, I'll never, never forget it. In the past I've told some of the story to friends and they were are fascinated, glued to "what happen next" ?. I'm not the best writer as you guys can read ha, but my daughter is gifted in writing and vocabulary. I should have had the book come out just before the 50th anniversary.  Always thought I had a calling but got old and just passed on it, maybe I didn't miss the boat just yet.... Thanks for the encouragement. Yeah, I could call it "The Woodstock Trip, 69", ha.
