I grew up within spitting distance of the San Andreas and I still own three houses over there.  One of them was built in the 60's and it has been through a lot of serious 'quakes with no apparent damage.  Another one was built in the 80's and added to and engineered by me in the 90's and it is still standing.  It now has a lot of steel in it, which is not very common for a house of this sort.  The third one was designed and engineered by me in the 2000's.  Unfortunately, I could not get the contractors to follow the plans and the thing might just split in two and catapult into the lake in the event that the fault directly underneath it decides to slip.

Anyways, those little 'quakes that you reference are sometimes attributed to quarry explosions in CA, so you might not be that far off with the thermite hypothesis.

El no.  Downwind from nuclear power plants, ravaged by drought, the only place on the mainland that North Korea can hit.  Nothing seems to matter, it is still some of the most ridiculously overpriced property in the country.

Cannot say it was anything I had anything to do with, but on 441 North near Pumpkintown, which is where Mining for Gold used to be which is now another mile or 2 up the road.  Anyway, Rite thar at punkintown we had us a good shake and one lane of 441 dropped down about 6" so they had to close it off.  Not really a problem as there is really no such thing a RUSH hour, getting in a rush in this area.

IOW, if you need to get somewhere in a hurry and you have to stop for gas or because you gotta reload the cooler, don't make eye contact with anyone sittin' outside the store on the benchs or picnic tables.  Take my word for it, cause if I am sitting there I will not just nod politely, no I will ask "where you from?" Most will answer.  Then it is "I was gonna ask you why you were visiting, but that don't sound good so.......I was a wonderin' if ya'll was havin fun?" 4 long, you're telling me all the fun things you do.

And don't think you're any different!  Tell me you ain't never been held up by a storyteller.

Location is about 8 miles south of Sylva NC or the part of Sylva they call Dillsboro.  So, is it best to live in the valley during a restructuring of the plates or ride the slide from the top into the valley.

It is good you do cause you just got held up by a storyteller with untreated Hyperactivity!  And you thought I rambled on purpose.

Funny thang, no one really knows I am a nerd cause when I tell stories, I always get to a place I say you know those tube in my tv or radio ain't never been replaced.  If the person is old enough, the always say tubes aren't used anymore!  Then I say, I was told they were called tubes, but I ain't sure, they must be light bulbs inside it.  Then they will ask, how old is you TV and I say Aunt (said aint) Melba give it to me when I was 6.  Then I say when you cut her off if gets dimmer and dimmer until it only has a little white dot in the middle.

Then if they remember, they ask is you TV black and white and I say naw, my radio is, but my TV is pecan finish like my speakers.

Big oil is ready to set off their depth charges, last years maps, or interpretation got 1in5.
my question;
will a 30-30 generate a "better" sonic fingerprint into the dirt or the base of a well rooted tree?  :dontknow:

The only thing about having a privy is in the winter it is about 100 yards to far from the house and in the summer it is about 100 yards too close.  I grew up in a house with an outhouse we built, we had indoor plumbing, but had 1 bathroom and 3 women.  Well, one day I headed from the garage (barn) and had to go purty bad.  It was cold as hell.  When I opened the door, a blue tic hound from my neighbor had took up residence like he built the damn thing.

Ended up going ahead since we did build a 2 seater and used the yellow pages and upon leaving when I opened to door cold air wind hit me and the hound and the dog growled like it wqas my fault.

Ed,

Hahaha! Great story.  Move over nice dog!

If the weather wasn't cooperating for hanging laundry outside it was hung in the basement.  In the winter that was the humidifier. The seemingly endless loops of clotheslines in the basement became vines in a jungle, seaweed underwater, and obstacles when roller skating with my clamp on skates - if I could find the key....

Mama used to hang out clothes and many times she would bring them frozen.  We didn't have a basement, so my father (bless his heart and you know what this is Jim) would string a line inside.  He wasn't always sober until I was about 7 years old, which cause some funky indoor clothes lines.  He became father of the year many times after he sobered up, so I don't want to spit in his grave.

He introduced me to Johnny Cash, George Jones, Merle Haggard and believe it or not, the Rolling Stones.  Mom liked Motown and the Supremes and this is most likely why I prefer blue notes cause all these folks sang the blues in one way or another.

When I was a year old we lived a winter below Pikes Peak in a small trailer. I'm told that Mom put the clothes on the line and just waited. They froze, but they dried, in a few days (sublimation).

We still hang in freezing weather, to get the soap smell out; but not overnight (much damper here on the coast than up in the mountains, they'd grow icicles). The pants come in so stiff they stand by themselves, so a twirl in the drier.

Came to read about shaking due to thermite, left thinking about hanging out clothes and my Mom. She had to tear up our roller / washer to get me loose. I got my right hand stuck in that darn roller squisher thingy, and she didn't think about the latch on the side to unlock it. Ripped the belt off the motor pulley. We did hang clothes out on a line in the yard, and in the house, over a in floor oil fired furnace. I still have cross hatch scars on my right foot from stepping on that hot grate bare foot. Lost a good dog to a quick freeze one year, found her when I was sent out to bring in the clothes Mom hung out the day before. Man that was a good dog too. Things I have not thought about in a long time.
Note to self: Do not Tic-off the Dentist before needed work, And do not Tic-off the Rectial surgen before needed surgery. Makes for Two V-bad weeks.
