Revibe voltages
« on: November 02, 2019, 06:06:37 pm »
I haven't been able to find any specs anywhere for voltages in the Hoffman revibe unit.
Just finished building one today in between everything else and while tremolo sounds great, I'm not getting any reverb. Have gone over the schematic and layout, swapped tubes, checked reverb transformer, reverb tank etc etc etc but nothing has popped up yet.
I would love to know what the voltages should be in this unit to help track down the issue.

Thanks!

Have you read voltages in other amps? Then this should be similar. Grids near ground. Cathode 1V-2V higher. Plate at 100-200 Volts. Power tube similar except cathode 10V-20V and plate 250V-350V, nearly full B+.

Does it booooiiinngggg when you beat it? Is the tank connected right way around?

Is there ANY output? hiss, hum, squirrels? Dead-silence suggests the output jack has got shorted (you would have noted a missing wire by now, but some shorts are sneaky).

Hi,

Thanks. I've tried to do a bunch of troubleshooting but haven't tracked it down.

The tank's plugged in the right way. Coils on both sides of the tank are good (ohm'd them out). Output transformer is a few ohms on the secondary, 365 ohms on the primary.
Tried a bunch of different tubes, and to be sure checked all with a good tester. Even pulled a few from a well-working amp. No luck.

I disconnected leads from the reverb jacks and checked for continuity to ground on them. Got no continuity.

I traced out the circuit with the schematic and layout, all looks OK. Re-flowed every solder joint in the amp, checked for AC voltage on all heaters etc. All looks good.

I'm also getting no tone control, but not sure if that is just in effect on reverb as I've never used one of these.
I can hear the can faintly when I give it a good thump with my hands.

Looks like my V2 plate voltages are low, but everything else appears OK?

All grids except screen grid on V3 are right around normal, about 0. Here's what I'm getting on V1, V2 and V3, as well as at rectifier, A, B, C and D:

Rectifier: 375
A: 306
B: 371
C:367
D: 314

V1A
P: 202
K: 1.6

V1B
P:198
K:1.5

V2A
P:88
K: 3.3

V2B
P: 86
K: 3.5

V3:
P 360
Screen grid: 370
K: 26

Thank you!

Found the problem.
V4B plate lead wire was running too close to the reverb transformer and it completely killed the reverb. Changed the wire routing to the other side of V4 and all is well.
This is an awesome unit!

V2A and V2B voltages are wrong.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!
