Bogen DB110
« on: November 08, 2019, 01:08:35 am »
My friend has this Bogen DB110 that he's had for a bit. I said I'd make it more usable for guitar for him.
He wants to invest minimal $$ and I want to not do a complete rebuild if possible.

2 6V6s in pushpull 5Y3 rectifier, 3 12ax7s,  half of one is the cathodyne phase inverter
So, many stages left over. It has a two band EQ.

My thoughts were to add a proper guitar input and maybe tweak the EQ. Maybe use a triode for a tremelo
The placement of the volume control is interesting.
DoeS the PA and inverter look usable as is?

And any ideas towards the easiest and cheapest way towards a decent sounding guitar amp?

i guess there's some similarities to a princeton PA in format.

Sorry about the schematic. The entire service manual is too big I was trying to take a screenshot. Now I need to figure out how to adjust the screenshot quality.

I've done 3 of these.  I gutted the chassis and added terminal strips.

One is the Bassman Jr.  I did this amp maybe 10-12 yrs ago?  It was back when you could pick one of these up off ebay for about $40.

Another one of the ones I did was the Carolina Blues Special.  Still one of my favorite amp designs!   I did two like this.

Once again gutted the amp chassis and used terminal strips inside.

Sort of a 5E3-ish with a one tube reverb and a James/Baxandall tone stack.  Very fun amp to play!

This schematic is a "revised" improved version of the original one I did in the DB-110.  However, you can leave the PPIMV off and also just use a 1M resistor to ground instead of a dwell pot.
