Grounding 6V6 Plexi
« on: December 02, 2019, 04:56:31 pm »
Hi, I circled it in red. I don't see on the layout diagram how these points are grounded. I assume the two groups I circled of connected turrets would each have a wire to the ground?  Thanks.

Your big circle is grounded. Look closely. The small circle is not supposed to be grounded.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

The dotted wire under the board is connected to the negative side of the cap which is grounded to the input jack that is grounded to the chassis on the preamp side.
Sorry Sluckey, l know you like to get one to think it out, figure the solution on their own, probably a good learning tool. :icon_biggrin:
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

You need to slow down and look at all the documents on the library page for that board
https://el34world.com/schematics.htm#Hoffman_Plexi_6V6

One of them is this one
https://el34world.com/Hoffman/files/CommonHookups.pdf

In the upper left of that document, it shows what those dotted lines are

Can I add one more ques? It may be a simplistic question, but please know I'm quite safety conscious and have spent many a day in the guts of Fender Silverfaces though I've never done a kit . Just want to be totally straight on this.

So, the big red circle in a layout pic above and let's say the buss wire on the pot cases et al. is all grounded via the input jack, the input jack ground tab is itself grounded to the case ect. Right?

Make sure you have good/clean metal contact behind front panel at Jack Socket hole. Some people use a heavy duty star washer between socket and chassis  :icon_biggrin:

I don't like to rely on the input jack for the preamp/buss chassis ground point. Seen too many loose jacks. I use a dedicated ground lug bolted to the chassis near the input jack. like this...

I agree entirely. For my scratch build I used Doug's #8B Ring Terminal. Gives you a permanent and reliable earthpoint.
