Matchless Lightning build complete
« on: December 25, 2019, 03:49:36 pm »
Hello,
I have finally completed my Matchless build. I think it turned out great! Fired right up and worked so that is something right there!
Thank you to all who answered my questions along the way. This was my third build and it seemed a lot less involved than my previous TOS style builds. Or maybe some knowledge has finally stuck!  :icon_biggrin: I already have an idea for my next one so I will certainly be back with questions.

Looks great! What's next?

A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Thank you both and thank you Sluckey for making all of your build info available to help guys like me along! This amp is nice and clear at low guitar volume but it gets so LOUD when I roll up the guitar!

For my next build I am going to try my hand at a Marshall type amp. More specifically the Friedman Dirty Shirley. I have my work cut out for me though as there are no schematics available and very little in the way of info. I have found some gut shots online that help and a hand drawn layout (except for the power section). I have read it is a mashup of a JTM45 and JCM 800 so I am comparing my layout to those. Once I have my board layout done I will post here for extra eyes and help.

Yes, that is the hand drawn version I have been looking at. I am drawing my layout using that but it doesn’t give any details on the PS or filtering. I have seen chassis pics that show a PT with 350-0-350 shown on it.

My understanding is that its tube rectified and Friedman is known as a 4 hole marshall hot rodder.. id bet its got the JTM45 power supply in it. You could make it switchable tube and SS.

Yes so far it is very similar to the something like the Ceriatone layout except for some value changes. I can achieve the same thing by using a solid state rectifier plug right? Just not on the fly?

I believe that to be true, be sure to bias properly with the extra B+ voltage if needed.
