Hi all:
For my my first amp build, I want to keep it simple, so a single-ended amp is the best place to start. The electro-mechanical side is kinda weird 'n scary.... but I figure that if I can make something with my own hands that sounds good to my ear, I'll be stunned and amazed.
And yet... Voices are already whispering to me that when if the 5F1 doesn't really rock me, I'll end up adding one or two (or three?) 12A-whatever's (and a master volume control?) to get tone-shaping and more overdrive but still won't be where I want to be from a sonic perspective.
For now, I'm still waiting on a few parts, and (yeahyeahyeah) soon intend to STFU and build my little SE gem. But I'm already planning to go full-bore on my next build and jump into the world of push/pull.
Word on this forum from people whose opinions I have come to trust has led me to suspect that what I really want is an amp with two beam power tubes (6V6 or whatever...) in push/pull configuration.
Mais revenons a nos moutons: For now, I am actively requesting suggestions for a single-ended amp (with extensions) that will sound good at bedroom volume levels. My recycled chassis has enough space for another tube, maybe two, but that's about the limit. For the next build, I will need to source some heavy metal.
I welcome your comments and advice.
