What size do you guys use. Ive been using 20 awg forever. But I have friends who use 22 awg.Thanks Bill. Im only asking because 22 would be alot easier to stuff into turrets. Lol

Wire size seems to be the hot subject lately. Been kicked around a lot lately....For in chassis wiring 22 ga. is rated for 7 amps, 20 ga. is rated for 11 amps.

I  use 20 on my filament and output section (22 for all of my signal section).

Yes I was just talking signal wire . I'm pretty set in my ways on heater wiring.

depends. sometimes i use 24AWG for signal if the pins are getting tight on space my go to is 22AWG. the shielded cable i use is 24AWG stranded PTFE insulated. typically i use 22AWG just about everything. i use 20AWG for power tube filaments, and sometimes for power tube anode & cathode connections.

I recently finished re-doing my wiring station a bit more orderly. I agree with D/L and have been wiring and building amps smarter using smaller wire and lower rated components where appropriate. Why use tank and buss sized parts/wire for everything needlessly when compact & economy class is more than enough in given situations? You don't see Fender, Marshall, Vox, etc. wasting space and money needlessly why should we?

I did a lot of (house) electrical wiring in my younger years, 14, 12, and 10 gauge mostly. So, working with 120/240 volts a/c, then working with 400 volts d/c, (amps) it's a mental thing even realizing that these applications are two different animals. I hear ya on using 22 and 24 gauge , l'll get there. Using strained 20 and 22 now but I personally like solid core wire, it stays where you put it as strained doesn't. But why do they sell 18 gauge green cloth filament wire, like Fender over the top heater wire...? Why are a/c filaments a lower gauge then d/c normal hook up? I'm still stuck on a little more beef then needed, l know it's just mental from all my house wiring days.

When I first started I thought 20 awg was the only way to go. so I stocked up on that size. Now its running out and I didn't want to stock a bunch of wire thats bigger than what I need and hard to fit several pieces into a turret . So I was asking before I stocked up. Thank You for all your answers, It had actually been about 2 yrs since built my last amp and when I did this latest one. I found out how many things I was out of.

Yes, I like that too but stranded holds up better. If solid gets a slight nick from the stripper then it breaks very easily, especially with extra vibration and/or slight movements.
