Hello from Steve in PA
« on: June 29, 2020, 03:35:38 pm »
Hello. My name is Steve. Joined the forum last month. I am a Pharmaceutical Engineer with interests in Astrophotography (deep space objects), Music (I play guitar), and electronics. I had always wanted to learn how build and service valve amps since I was a teenager after watching my brother build me my first real guitar amp in 1975. Wished I still had it. I had my chance during down time after heart surgery last year, so I jumped in. Started with a MOD 101 build and fell hard. Spent lots of time doing research, how to apply the key math, and understanding the design principals. I have since fixed 2 Bugeras, restored a Gibson Atlas IV, restored a Musicman 210-75 for my personal use (had a 210-65 in the 80s when I played professionally), just finished a mod on a Line 6 HD100 (ripping out all the defunct digital and installing a Marshall style passive tone stack), and have focused most of my time on Univox amps, specifically the U235PB, and the U-1235/6. I have finished 2 U235 restorations, currently working on a U-1236, and have another U235 and a U-1221 in queue. Glad to be on board and look forward to learning new things and sharing what I have learned about these Univox amps.
