Intro from Australia
« on: July 10, 2020, 01:58:48 pm »
Hi - Just a little intro to start off. I've been tinkering with electronics for a long time now but that doesn't mean I know much ;-). Built small projects as a kid, crystal radios and such, an FT in the USN, etc. Got into computers in the '80's and went on to a career as a comp tech. All module replacement and software from there. My career progressed well but that meant management (and paperwork - ugh!) so now, approaching retirement, I needed something to stimulate my brain so I got my Ham Radio license. I hav a friend who has a punk band and we were chatting and effects pedals came up somehow. That  resulted in me building him a Vox ToneBender pedal.
Now I'm hunting valve gear - radios and amps. On a total lark I went into an antique store and asked if they had any old valve gear and I walked out with an "Eminar De Luxe" 60w base head. This is from an Australian amp company prominent in the 70's and 80's. Oh, and a tube tester as well (AVO 163). For $50.00 each I couldn't pass them up.

Hi VK7FPCL,
Great to hear you have seen the light (heater glow)
Welcome from Canberra. Where abouts are you?
I have fixed a few Eminars in my time (used to know Gary Millington who built/sold them?)
Kind Regards
Mirek

Hey Mirek,
Just the man!
As I've said, I'm new to Valve tech & restoration but not silly around HV (1980's USN training helped that) Are you familiar with the De Luxe 60w? It runs 2x 12ax7s and 2x 6L6s.
I've heard that it draws its design from Vox and Marshall amps of the late '60's
I can't find a schematic so I'll have to RE that myself I guess. Here's a pic ;-)
I've got a friend in a local Tassie band (The Roobs) that is very interested in it.
Any hints/tips would be awesome. - Cheers, Paul
