Stereo guitar amp ideas
« on: September 04, 2020, 08:13:40 am »
Has anyone tried a tube rectified HT supply and a SS rectified HT supply with a single PT???

Kinda want to make a 50w Marshall and a 30w fender type thing in one box.

Marshall SS rectifier rail
Fenderish tube Rectifier rail.

Both have the CT grounded.

Wondering about isolation, resistance issues when shared, and even if it’s possible. Never seent it in a schematic, so there has to be issues????

Thoughts?

I don't see any issues. Here's an example of two amps, two rectifier/B+ rails, and single PT, all on one chassis. One amp is 30W, the other is 15W.

A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

i made this in one cab with 2 12's but it's two very similar amps though one is a deluxe reverb with trem and the other is a straight up deluxe, had to flip the polarity at the speaker on one to get the phasing correct. It works great. I've used it at several shows and recording sessions.Built it to use with my RE-150 Space echo that has separate wet and dry outputs

Sorry, not wishing to hijack the thread, but...Hey Toxophilite, I'm planning a stereo guitar amp using 4x6aq5s, and I like the looks of yours! I started a different thread asking about dual tube tremolo circuits acting as an auto-pan. Any thoughts on the matter? Would synchronization be an issue? If you have any ideas, please reply on my thread "Dual Tremelo = Auto Pan?". Thanks!

Chime in here.

Been staring at the Ampeg ET-1 echo twin schematic. Servicing one currently, ‘61.

That is a nifty way to do dual mono or shorting jack to harness both power sections via one input.

The trem sounds rad all lopsided. Very faux Doppler at faster speeds. Octal tubes are my fave for preamp, but in a combo I tend to lean away.

Still worth peeping.

Ampeg made some interesting amps with 2 outputs.  The B-12X had two outputs, one used a pair of 6L6s, the other was a single 6V6...

If I was making mine again, I'd go with the Ampeg super echo twin verb and the tremor-ator.
That would be 2 less tubes and enough of a drop in heater current to allow me to use a smaller PT.
Less components would make for a shorter board/chassis. Maybe a 12 and a 10" speaker. Smaller and lighter.
