Fender Ramparte Issue
« on: September 08, 2020, 01:41:41 pm »
I was playing my Ramparte and everything went silent.  No hum, no nothing.  Cracked her open and saw that a radial cap had blown.  Replaced the cap, and still no sound.  Replaced the tubes, and still no sound.  Tried to track the problem down with the schematic, but no luck.  This morning, I was looking it over again and noticed a bunch of goo on the OT.  Is this normal?  I've never seen one like this.

That's normal. The manufacturer dipped the transformer in varnish.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Great, thanks for the help!  Now it's back to the drawing board...

So you put a new (correctly rated) mains fuse in after you replaced the blown capacitor - right?
A bus stops at a bus station. A train stops at a train station. On my desk, I have a work station.

Yes Sir.  Original fuse wasn't blown, but I swapped it out anyway.
