Three wire choke
« on: September 22, 2020, 10:12:26 pm »
I'm working on a tweed Super project. I've been looking at a lot of pics of original Supers for reference. I'm curious as to why this choke has three wires coming out of it? (Yes, that's the choke, not the OT.)

I disagree. That's the OT. Follow the blue and brown wires. Bet they go to pin 3 of the 6L6 sockets.

Look at this short video...

A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Where do you see a 3 wires choke on schematic ?

Choke is alway smaller than a O.T

Well, y'all are right, of course. I stand corrected. Those are the red, green, and brown wires from the OT shown on the layout. I was fooled because most of the replica builds I've seen pics of show the choke between the OT and PT. Also, this amp has an abnormally large choke because it has to handle the current of the power tube plates.

Big current does not always translate to big physical size. Look at the size of this choke. It has to handle plates for 2 6550s.

You are right, most of the time, choke are between PT and OT

But all the time, choke have only 2 wires
