Mystery Transformers
« on: October 15, 2020, 09:42:01 am »
I picked up some big stout looking transformers at an antique shop yesterday. Heavy 4" cubes He wanted $20 each, I got all 4 for $65.

the 1st is 430-0-430 with 3.5 and 6.3 and another 6.3ct

the 2nd is 380-0-380 with 6.3 and  5  and 2.5ct

but the 3rd is an odd step down that has 27-0-27 and 26 and 5.5
what could i do with that one?

and the 4th one has so many wires...I'll give you my measurements and maybe you can help figure out what it is, but I must confess....I let the smoke out of it....
so theres 4 fat black wires which I assumed was the primary side .7 ohms between each pair (but I applied 120v and now my shop smells sad)
on the same side theres a multi tapped set
red - red green= 73 ohms
red - red yellow= 139 ohms
red - red black=n200 ohms
red - brown= 275 ohms
then, on the other side theres a few different coils
green pair= .7 ohm
brown with red ct = .5 ohms
black - black yellow = 3.5 ohms
blue - blue yellow = 247 ohms

sorry guys, I probably smoked it....but what is it? did I just wreck the best output transformer I'll ever see? what is this thing?

The third one could probably be used for SS circuits but has no use for guitar tube amps. The fourth one is a boat anchor. I wouldn't spend too much time on it other than to figure out how to tie a rope to it.  :icon_biggrin:
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

oh well, $65 for the two good ones is still a decent deal.
