What to Build Next ?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have just completed a 5E3 and am so delighted with the results that I am wondering what to build next. Basically, I love the sound of but would like something a bit louder for gigs.
The 3 amps (all c. 40w) that sound as though they might suit are the 5E7, 5E8 or 5F6a. Could anyone possibly give me a bit of a guide as to the tonal differences ? I know it's a long shot, but there are not too many around to try out!
Thanks.

If you haven't built a 5F6A, that would be the next build that I would recommend especially if you are into blues. If you put pins 1 and 8 of the power tubes to ground and use a 1k 5 watt resistor across pins 4 and 6 of the power tubes you can use a wide assortment of power tubes.
IE: EL34,EL37,6L6GC,5881,6550 etc. By using a 5R4 rectifier tube you can even use 6V6GT's.
Also I highly recommend a bias pot as biasing is necessary for each change.
I've built several of these and every one is amazed at the tone.

Thanks. That's useful to know, as it seems there's a lot of info about the 5F6a, more than for either of the other two. A Double Deluxe also sounded like an interested idea, but again limited info & difficulties getting hold of a chassis.
