Hello,My name is Rafe and ......
« on: December 05, 2020, 06:45:34 pm »
I'm a Tube Ampaholic....It's been over a year since I bought another amp......over 12 years since I sold one ....I had no intentions of today of buying one I just went to the flea market ...Honest I've never even seen a tube amp at this flea market .....I have been going there over 20 years.....There is a guitar shop there and I rarely go in ....but today I did just to say Hello.....I noticed an old Guild amp there and looked at it, leaned it foward and looked at the back and said to myself "Solid State" because that is what it looked like, closed up like a solid state. I asked Him what He knew about it and He said He knew it didn't work ....so I was just about to leave when something made me take another look ....I noticed what looked to be a partial tube chart, only looked like one tube so I asked if He had a phillips and opened up the back........It had a lot of Tubes  7 of them all branded GUILD....So I asked Him what He wanted to get for it...He said *Well, I know it's worth $1000.00  (My heart sunk ) But I'll take $10       ...So I took it. I can almost guarantee I'm the first to see the inside since new ...nothing has been touched in there dirty and a little rust but not bad....Tubes are west German, Holland and the 12ax7a are not marked as far as origin but they look like RCA's ......Someone molested the speaker set up and installed a speaker jack on the side that is ugly as hell but a relatively easy fix....I know it is going to need caps it has a 40/40/40/40/ cap can, guess what it costs 40  the other caps are less another 40 a 60 and a 30 ...and a few smaller ones .....Still a real deal. It's got a 12" and an 8" the 8' is dedicated to the reverb....has it's own amp. It's a pretty interesting set up ....from what I have seen online it's 12 watts and might be "The King" of surf music. It is cosmetically a solid Very Good and looks to be a late 64. The 8" is the original CTS and the 12" was replaced with a Mexican Peavy. Sometime this week I'll fire it up on the limiter and make sure there are no shorts. Ol Saint Nic  was good to Me today ...Photo from ether not mine. It's a THUNDER I RVTImage result for Guild Thunder Reverb

Merry Christmas!  There's a schematic in the library too.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!
