Just got a Fluke 77IV
« on: May 14, 2021, 08:29:56 am »
I've had a craigslist search for years waiting for an affordable Fluke to come up. Finally got one yesterday. I never actually held one in person before. It is definitely heavier and seems more robust than my 23 year old radio shack meter. The screen is much larger and it seems to lock into voltages, resistance, etc faster. Plus, it also measures capacitance. I have a bunch of vintage blue molded capacitors that I am able to measure now.

The only thing that concerns me is it worked fine last night when I was checking out the features. I turned it off by turning the knob all the way to the left to the off position. However, this morning it would not come on. I swapped in a fresh 9V battery and it works again. I measured the old battery and it says it is 7V. That seems like it should be enough voltage to turn on the screen and give a "low battery" warning.

Do you think the battery was the issue or did I just waste $100?

Battery.

I believe their warranty is lifetime, right?

It's limited lifetime, but...
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Thanks for that -- I never actually read the warranty before now.

So no it would NOT be covered (as he is not the original owner).   And yeah, that warranty is about as useless as it could be -- essentially, "we'll take care of you if we want to."

I was taken by the title of the warranty PDF --- war.PDF.     Says it all, heh?

To lazy to spell it out, especially for that limited war...   :l2:
