How is the 1960s 2x12 Extension cabinet packed?
« on: June 08, 2021, 09:34:31 pm »
I'm building a replica of a 1960s 2x12 extension cab, used with the showman, bassman, etc.
I have the cab built, and the speakers mounted.
But I'd like to know exactly what else was put inside back then? I'm not looking for current sound reinforcement standards. How did Fender assemble?
for example, 1) is there a board placed in the center between the 2 speakers? 2) Did Fender use fiber fill back then? Any other details?
I"d be grateful for any specific information!

Corey

Yes there was a board in the middle mounted between the speakers and screwed to the back panel as well.  It was like 3/8 inch plywood with 3/4 x 1" or so strips on it for fastening it to the baffle and back. The ones I have opened up have all had fiberglass insulation inside with four pieces to each speaker. The speaker baffle was removeable too like the early blackface amp cabinets.

Look at the pictures of this one to see how the inside was built. https://reverb.com/item/4110748-1965-blackface-fender-bassman-2x12-speaker-cab
