I'm late to the party, BUT, Mr. Kuehnel has given us 2 more gifts this year:

I went on to finally break down and buy the 5F6A Circuit book and it was gone so I grabbed a copy of the new Bassman book.
I can't say enough about how grateful I am to the older/wiser crowd for being here and sharing all of this information with us.

The internet has made this all seem so easy, but I can only imagine what it must have been like to piece this stuff together on your own.
I'd love to hear the stories. I think that would make a great read: "My Life In A Vacuum" (how we learned way back before Google)

Yes, when piecing it all together oneself, it’s easy to hypothesise oneself up the garden path, and get in a muddle.
Back in ‘99 or 2000, discovering Aiken’s site, where the theory behind everything (almost!) inside a valve guitar amp was clearly explained, and the relevant equations presented with worked examples, was a happy day 
Despite the best effects of Aiken, Merlin et al though, I still manage to find stuff to get in a muddle about
