Peavey Classic 30 Circuit board design?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I lot of the guys in my area (Long Island, NY) use the Peavey Classic 30. Unfortunately, the circuit boards on these amps are made of Motzah & Peanut butter. You can only repair these boards once or twice before you have real problems. A P to P turret board is just the answer. I was wondering if anyone knows what program Doug used to design his circuit layouts and turret boards. There may be a market for some additional amps.

I think Doug used brainpower to develop his boards.

If you have a schematic for the Classic 30, I can work up a layout and get you a template and prototype. If you're interested in cornering the market on Classic 30's after that, be my guest.

  here is the schematic...

Here is a pdf of the schematic:

Since it's not an "all tube" design, it might not lend itself well to point to point wiring. But maybe you could do some hybrid system where the tube stuff is all P-P and you have a PCB for the solid state bits.

It looks like the solid state parts are just used for the reverb and fx-loop... This seems pretty straight forward to separate.

It will also depend on how the layout is done in the chassis. Seems like a lot of work. :)

Oh, and as for layout software. I don't think anyone has made any CAD tools for point to point wiring. I would guess that it's done the way it was in the 50s... with pencil and paper.

If I'm not mistaken, Doug used a paint program to draw his layouts. That can be very laborious. A simple drag and drop cad program which has functions like "Array" will make a layout drawing a breeze. I have been using Visio Technical for years now and I find it a great tool for layout drawings. You can also make your on stencil shapes within Visio if you are going to be doing a lot of layouts. Here is a link to the hoffman style 5E3 layout done in Visio and converted to pdf on my site:

  visio stencil

Barry inspired me to make this stencil for visio a few months ago.

I have had a lot of luck using it to get some nice layout like Barry posted.

Here is a sample visio diagram using the stencil
