Brackets for a Lay-Down Style Transformer?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have an OT that is a laydown model.
Does anyone sell brackets to convert transformers for an upright installation?
I'd prefer not to have to cut a big square hole in the chassis (I hate drilling big round holes as it is).
As an alternative to the brackets, could I replace the bolts with longer bolts & install it in a laydown position but suspended above the chassis?
Then, I'd just have to drill the hole for the grommet & wires.
Thanks for any ideas.

I don't know of anyone that sells brackets for that, although I'd bet you are not the first to need them.
If you have a Home Depot or something like that near you, you can get angle aluminum ( which is easy to drill or cut) and make barckets fairly easily. You might need to get two longer bolts to go through the trans and the brackets.
You want the OT laminations to be turned 90 degrees from the PT.

Thanks for the reply.
Anybody ever install 1 with longer bolts so you'd only drill for the 4 bolts & 1 or 2 holes with grommets for the wires?

To do it right, you should see if you can order end bells for that transformer that mount it in an upright position. If it's a common transformer it shouldn't be an expensive proposition.

 lay down brackets

I did this once with an old salvaged Fender tranny, I just used some 1 1/2" x 1/2" stand-offs and mounted above the chassis

 Doug-
Yeah, I was considering this.
And I could replace the 8/32 bolts with 10/24 bolts, which would fit in the transformer holes & add to the stability.
But, the wire side of the windings is not covered, so I have to suspend the entire tranny above the surface of the chassis, so I'm thinking this isn't so sturdy.
I'm using a Hammond black powder coated steel chassis, so I'd hate to have to cut a big square hole, but I can always drill the bolt holes & install it with the standoffs & see how sturdy it is.
If I'm not satisfied, I can always cut the hole from there.
Thanks for the advice.
