Sealing stuff
« on: December 31, 2021, 06:56:56 pm »
Hi boys and gals

What is the best and cheapest imposdible to remove stuff to seal a circuit ? I just don t want my client to copy it. Epoxy is expensive, silicone is easy to remove....construction glue ?
What do you guys use ?

Well good luck with keeping your design private . . .

Dumble (reportedly) sanded off the values of components before covering them with the goop.  At least some of the circuits were covered in my favorite stuff -- Permatex.

Not that I would recommend it…
But, I saw something on YouTube where someone had spray painted the entire circuit board to hide their secret formula—what a mess.

I can't use mine, I  forgot the combination number right after my wife walked into it.
Wouldn' t you have another solution ? Like concrete ,  a bomb attached to a cover screw,
a police siren .....try  to imagine something more
cheap than a safe and harder than bull shit...
Non conductive melted lead, melted glass, a notice to users saying it is forbidden to open it up, gee there are many that you haven t thought of.  I ll wait for more...practical suggestions if it doesn't hurt your ego....

use nature, brew up some alcohol, dissolve a whole bunch of that Canadien  pine tar in the alcohol, run it through an old sock or coffee filter, then pour in, let set.

How about a couple of "High Voltage -- Danger" signs plastered over the back, and then covering the access screws with tamper-resistant paint, and include the statement:  "Warranty is voided by entry."

And if I could find one of those miniature paint bombs that spray indelible ink on a thief, that would be cute.

Or, don't sell to folks you think are going to rip you off.   That rules out a good chunk of mankind, however.

Better to drink the Canadian Whisky than use it as a solvent anyway

Honestly, it's impossible to keep the secrets of an amp sacred . . .

Acheld, you re giving me an idea. Permatex sells liquid gasket that is so hard to remove that I had to use a grinder to get rid of it on my motorbike primary gear cover....I think I will get me epoxy, only to hide the tube socket and components attached to it. It is not a whole amplifier, only a small stompbox, so only the 2 tubes  will do the job. I used silicon only once. When they returned the unit to me for repair, a large part of silicone had disapeared......

M resistor, yes I did read your link I thank you.
I think the cheapest way to cover the main circuit is to drown it in epoxy. I know I wont be able to fix it that s for sure but in general they are much reliable circuits.

Colas, just send your magic circuit to me. I'll fix it so no one can tell what it is. I promise not to rip your design!    :l2:

The number to call is BR-549
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!
