Tremolo mosfet cf

I've been looking into the few examples posted here over the years of tremolo circuits that sub a irf820 mosfet for the cf buffer stage.

I've seen multiple examples showing a .02-.047 capacitor to ground either before or after the decoupling cap going into the intensity pot and even a few that do not include it at all.

To clarify, this capacitor is shunting high frequencies to ground to prevent thumping?

Why would you choose to place it before or after the decoupling cap?

Coupling, not decoupling.

Clicks, not thumps.

It is a hack. It may not be needed. Try it different ways.
