SWR Bass Amp Popping on Power Up

I have a SWR Bass amp head that experiences a popping sound on power up. According to SWR, this is normal and will not hurt the amp. I am considering installing a speaker cut-off switch to eliminate the popping sound on power up. Has anyone done this on a SWR bass amp? I will post the schematic later.Thanks,

I have attached the schematic. This is a stereo bass amp so I will have to connect both channels to a DPST switch. Looking at the schematic, the most logical place to connect the switch would be right after the fuse, AF2 for both channels. I have done this on a Trace Elliot bass amp that was experiencing loud popping on power down. Any other suggestions on where to connect the switch?Thanks,DPM

They obviously struggled with on/off events, Q3 Q4 attempt to mute. You might replace C6.

Yeah, if you feel better with 21st-century tools, that's a fine place for a relay.

According to the Owners Manual, the speakers must be connected prior to powering up the unit. Will the cut off switch cause any damage to the unit? Just want to make sure before I do this. I know on tube amps that there must be a load (speakers or dummy load) before powering up to prevent damage to the OT. I don't think this applies to SS amps but I just want to make sure.Thanks,Dan
