AC inlet for petalboard
« on: March 11, 2022, 10:19:42 am »
Hi All,  I'm redesigning a long neglected pedalboard and want to include a patch-bay.  Getting 120v AC in is straight-forward but I wondered about the back side.  It would be easy enough to just attach a 120v ICE cord to the naked prongs and shrink-tube the heck out of them.  Something tells me there is a better way.  Does anyone know if there are dual male/male connectors for either side of a panel that are more kick-resistant?  Thanks, Skip

It depends on the physical size of the unit IMO.

For anything big enough I strongly prefer Neutrik Powercon connectors.  These are nearly indestructible in my experience.  I understand they are clunky, but they are robust.

If the unit is on the small side, I just use a power cord strain relief to run the mains in to the box.

Although IEC connectors are common, I've had too many pulled out at the wrong time!  Also, folks will "borrow" the AC cord to use on another piece of equipment . . .

Based on acheld's post I came across this:
Neutrik NAC3MM-1 powerCON Cable Coupler (parts-express.com)

Is that what you meant by "dual male/male"?
