Blues Jr. Converted to AC15
« on: March 19, 2022, 01:38:03 pm »
I converted my Blues Jr. from a printed circuit board to turret board using Doug's kit in early 2017. The kit gave my amp a new life and it has served me well. Time to change it up a bit.

https://el34world.com/schematics.htm#Hoffman_Blues_Junior_Conversion

I looked at Sluckey's AC15 first but his design added vibrato which meant more tubes. So I chose the Mojotone NC3015 schematic to work from.

I first attempted to just swap some component values from the AC15 schematic but soon realized I would need to change too much. I started with the Hoffman Blues Jr. board, to keep the size the same, then moved turrets as needed to layout the AC15. I only have room for 1 input so I did not add the components for the normal channel. I tied V1A and V1B together, (not sure if this is a good idea). I will keep the amp solid state rectified because there is no room for any more tubes. I have the basic layout completed, still need to work out adding a Mid pot and a Master volume. I will also need to check voltages and get the dropping resistors correct.

Still a work in progress, all input welcome.

Thanks!!
John

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Maybe a mod or two.
Theory is when everyone knows everything but nothing works, practice is when stuff works but nobody knows why !!!

I started with mods, then speakers, then the conversion. Now I have the Fender sound covered with a 66 Bassman, 67 Bassman, 71 Twin, a Deluxe Reverb and a Princeton Reverb. I recently finished a Stout Reverb for some British sound, figured the AC15 would make a nice addition and I have the perfect platform. I am Fendered out, I need some variety!!
