Fender frontman 25R 220V tranny
« on: April 15, 2022, 11:19:56 am »
Hola amigos como están ?

A friend of mine brought me a fender frontman amplifier which power transformer is from Europe and works with 220V. The output has to be 20-0-20 but obviously , when connected to 110v, yields the half.
Question:  can I swap the original transformer with a 24V output ? I have a 110/24 in stock and my customer doesn t care about getting an original or not.. I am just concerned about the 4V extra, and I don t know much about transistors tolerance.

No.

A 20-0-20 PT puts out 40V, much higher than your in stock 24V PT.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Oops ....you're just right....

What about a 18-0-18  @ 2A,  would it be too weak ? I am right now at the electronic store and they carry a bunch

Voltage is OK but current may be too light, especially for loud playing. Try and see.

It is supposed to be a 8 ohm speaker. If so, the 18-0-18 @ 2A is slightly generous (perfectly OK if it fits).

But check me: is the new iron similar size and weight as the old iron?
