Getting old sucks
« on: June 09, 2022, 02:04:50 pm »
How many of you guys that were very active up to 60/65, then all of a sudden you find getting up from the floor ain’t as easy as a few years ago…? At 65 l was laying shingles on my shop, no issues. Now l have a hard time climbing up a 40’ ladder to coat my roof, l hit the 70 mark a little while ago. No heart issues but endurance ain’t what it use to be, am l alone here..? Lol
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

You are most certainly not alone in this . . .   I don't even think about going up on my roof now.  Among other things.

Nope, sounds very familiar to this 70+ year old.  The last five years brought a noticeable change, although I still feel good overall.  Can do all the same stuff, just not for as long as I used to.  I worked in IT most of my life.  In rural Virginia, I see men and women barely 60 who've worked the land all their lives and they're just physically wrecked.  Sad.

But naw, I don't go up on ladders anymore.

I  try to exercise at least 150 minutes per week, and more. I tell you that you are correct we do slow down and I have noticed it.  I went up on the roof and changed the swamp cooler pads and next day I had a hard time getting out of bed.  69 here.  It's best to take some supplements to help your bones and all.  Gee  who thought growing old was going to be a cake walk..  ?

Being my wife's Designated Garden Laborer, I get plenty of general exercise in an average week.  And the next-morning price keeps getting bigger every year.

Anyway, it still beats the alternative.   :icon_biggrin:

Not as strong, fast or agile, less endurance at 71 ............... & it takes much longer to recovery from an injury. I do some short bicycle rides about 3-4 times a week this time of year

Having said that, I stay very active. Example is I am finishing up a retaining wall. I did have someone "set" most of the wall blocks in place.  However, I moved 350+ blocks, 8 cubic yards of dirt, and 99 bags of sand and gravel. Still have more gravel to put down and then some concrete patio pavers.

I have a friend that is 73
He rides road bike at least 200 miles a week
He puts in 10K+ miles a year normally
He is still pretty strong but his skin is almost see through  :l2:

I ride off road on mountain bikes and stay very active
Hopefully I will not be sliding down too far when I hit 73

This guy is 73
We just did a 30+ mile ride with 3000 feet of climbing :)

If you exercise and eat decent, you can feel way better as you age

I'm 74. I don't think of myself as 74 until I look in the mirror  . 2021 was a rough year with a lot of health problems and trips to all kinds of doctors but they basically didn't find any major problems. So I decided I would concentrate on living until the Lord tells me different. And Yes I agree, exercise is so important. I'm not a big exerciser but the wife and I walk several times a week. Some exercise is better than nothing. Eating right helps too. But for us musicians a good burn down the house jam is good for the soul:>) :guitar1 :m3 :m8
Psalms 98:4   Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.
On the right track now<><
