Using an External Cab for Fender '68 Custom Vibro Champ Reverb

In order to get a more oomph from this amp on clean tones, I'm looking at running it thru a 15" cab with a Weber Neomag 15".

Has anyone tried something similar?

To my ears, the smallish cab with the stock Celestion 10" sounds puny.

A Ten IS puny for a serious guitar. 10" is like a banjo, or large ukulele. Your ear can hear the size.

Fifteens can be boomy and beamy. But it sounds like you been this way before, it won't be a shock.

IMHO there is little wrong with one or two Twelves in small to medium-large venues. Today anything a 2-12 won't fill has a PA system, let it be someone else's problem.

I have recently been playing a 10 watt push pull fender’ish circuit through a 1x12 loaded with an Eminence GA SC-65. It’s a 3D style pine cab (side vents instead of open back) built by TRM. 


The speaker took some break-in time—it was terrible at first, but I like it a lot now.  I suspect it would work well for a vibrio champ reverb.

"12″ speaker, 4″ NeoMag magnet circuit and single layer voice coil with edgewound aluminum wire designed to have the same magnet circuit energy and voice coil force characteristics as the original AlNiCo D120/F."

It sure looks like a JBL on the front.

Back is totally wrong but that's progress (and less to lift!!).
