Since It Seems To Be Champ Amp Month...
« on: August 29, 2022, 09:25:39 pm »
Dusting this project off...My spin on a 5E1 - EL34 output tube. Going to sub in a 12BZ7 to shoot for maximum gain with this ckt.

I haven't built a Champ into a chassis/cabinet yet. No Champ amp shall go unmodified. I may actually build this one.  :icon_biggrin:

Fairly quiet amp, even on the breadboard.

Impressive breadboarding going on there

Very nice breadboarding, indeed. Is the a special name for that kind of terminals?

Two row barrier strips -or- Double row barrier strips. The ones I use are on .375" (9.5mm) centers. The ones I use specifically are becoming increasingly difficult to find, as I require what's called a wire clamp screw, or sometimes also called a wire captive screw. To circumvent, I buy the 20 position model and buy the wire clamp screws from another source. beware that some barrier strip screws are metric, most are 6-32 screws, but some are also metric, typically M3.5x.06x6mm screw - Links below to a source for both metric and inch pattern clamp screws and barrier strips.

Google search for "two row barrier strip" and you'll have more hits than you'll have time to sort through.

That IS the most adorable little breadboard I have ever seen
You should tell the guy who labels your BBs that you are using an EL34 this time.  :icon_biggrin: Is he the same guy who cuts your lawn?

GREAT IDEA for bread boring. I bought one of those strips yesterday at the big box store to fix a control wiring mess by the A/C technician.

....I bought one of those strips yesterday ...to fix a control wiring mess by the A/C technician.

I got a "trailer junction box"--
https://www.amazon.com/MICTUNING-Way-Electrical-Trailer-Junction/dp/B07QDQRX7P
7 studs is enough for most heat/AC thermo-control wiring, box protects against paint-cans and dead amps shoved against the furnace. Run of CAT-6 net-cable from the furnace computer terminals to this box outside and up at working level (my furnace PCB is hardly off the floor). Side-run for the hour meter and condensate pump shut-down.

I'm replacing a Carrier thermostat. It's a two board control; one at the furnace, and a separate board at the thermostat. I re-purposed the cover for the board at the furnace to house the terminal strip.

No but 184=104976 overall gain of your preamp;
beats my lowly pair of triodes... 502=2500 - you win!   :cussing:
However, I have 1 less tube to wire filaments to, so I win!    :blob8:

IIRC the last stage became a CF on the 2nd tweak-round
and
I did catch the big tube bug from some of your "lets see what a pair of 120's runnin hot....." experiments

win or lose, it's all about stealin circuits  :icon_biggrin:
(the pre-is a molested steal from Steves juke-box build)

this one did make it into the wild, always a good indicator, I got close enough
