Brownface design question
« on: November 11, 2022, 08:51:23 pm »
Hello guys, hope all is well!

On any brownface vibrato channel models (let's take the super), the gain is dropped by a factor of 8-10 after the tone stack recovery gain stage (courtesy of a plate load divider). Of course there is an extra mixer stage before hitting the long tail pair PI so the gain had to be reduced.

If someone did a one channel version of this circuit using cathode biased 6v6 tubes, could that mixer stage be the last gain stage before a cathodyne PI? In that case, the tone stack recovery stage would be ''whole'' and without any divider. Or maybe there is another reason why they did it like this (other than gain-matching channels). Maybe vibrato quality?
