Plate Resistor Type Question
« on: November 24, 2022, 09:02:55 am »
Working on a vintage 1966 ab165 bassman.

Want to try out different type resistors on the plates of the preamp tubes. There's a lot of snap crackle pop going on. Other high voltage resistors will be used but I've decided on those already.

Regarding the plates, I'm planning on using
Koa speer carbon film on the phase invertor and third/shared stages, and a metal film type on the two input stages.

I don't know what brand metal film to use.  I'm thinking either xicon or Vishay.

Any suggestions on all of this?

I like the ones that Hoffman sells.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

You don't need "magic" resistors. Just good ones. Or just not 54+ years old. (We all get a bit of snappy-pop in our fifties; knees, elbows, knuckles.)

And clean tight socket pin clamps (and good solder joints)
A bus stops at a bus station. A train stops at a train station. On my desk, I have a work station.
