Rusty Patina or Restore?

New Project is a Philco 926 car radio from the '30s

Do you like the patina that this came with? I think its rad rod cool.
What would be a good preservation technique? Boiled Linseed Oil rub maybe?

Or do you like a restored finish?
Was thinking Blue Hammered paint (matches what's on it), new cloth and shinny metal grill.
Other thoughts for resto?

I'm starting the process of bringing back a '55Ply radio, bounced between your ideas, going with a restore on the faceplate, the steel chassis will become flat black, gloss clearcoat.

I've been following your journey, much fun,
This Philco 926 is my second car radio
first was "Black and Blues" a 52 Packard as a 2 channel into 6V6 Push Pull

I oil rubbed the Philco looks good, but no protection so I will go with a satin clear coat.
Philco 926 is from the '30s so it has a much older tube lineup
Ch1: 78(as triode)-75-41(SE)
Ch2: 78(as pentode)-6A7(as triode)-41(SE)
6v 84 rectifier

The BLO made it look good but softened the patina.
Decided to overcoat with a satin clear coat
Was a little to glossy, so a light buff with scotch brite made it just right
Happy with the outcome.

Thinking the "36 Ply" is for 1936 Plymouth, but the Philco 926 radio schematic is dated 1938
The remaining orig blue is nice touch to the rust
Do you think too much patina??

There is a cool mystery knob (vol switch) I got in a lot of other old car radio knobs
The Antique Radio Forum guys think it might be from an old oven - I'm sticking with car knob :-)
Leather handle on top and some rubber feet on bottom to complete the cab
