Blues Jr. PT for 18 watt lite build
« on: December 14, 2022, 11:04:06 am »
Hey all,

Just curious if one could use the blues jr. Power transformer for a solid state 18 watt lite type build? I wouldn’t need the brown 20.5v windings that it normally employs.
Thanks in advance,

ET

Not sure what a solid state 18 watt lite is. But the BJ PT would build a nice 18W lite ***TUBE*** amp.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

I it's the same SState amp a kid gave me a few years back, the only thing worth saving is the chassis, even that isn't really worth the time, if it ain't got tubes set it in the corner, use it for target practice  :icon_biggrin:
Went Class C for efficiency

Sorry, to be more clear I meant to say diode rectified, full wave bridge, no 5V taps for tube rec. not actual solid state inner workings, ouch.

I built a 5 Watt ECC99 powered amp using spare blues jr iron. It worked great. The blues junior runs a pair of EL84s at 15 watts, so I imagine would be sufficient for an 18 watt build. No center tap on the blues junior, so you may have to adapt the power and bias circuits in your amp. Most schematics I see assume a center tap.
