Help with wiring diagram - les Paul bass cut
« on: January 12, 2023, 12:01:34 pm »
Jumping into the world of les Paul. I’ve been a die hard single coil guy but testing new waters.

I’d already like to tinker with the standard 4 pot layout for volume and tone. Instead of the typical V/T for each pickup, I’d really like to have something like what Reverend calls their Bass Contour control. I’ve seen G&L does something similar. Also seen it called a “tight tone control” or focus knob. https://www.premierguitar.com/the-recording-guitarist-the-fabulous-focus-knob

However, most of these sum the volume control for both pickups onto one, which I would want to avoid. I like the idea of having individual volume controls still.

My ideal scenario would be one of the following. Anyone got experience on this that could help me figure out a scheme?

Option 1:
Neck Volume
Bridge Volume
Master Tone
Master Bass Cut

Option 2:
Neck Volume (stock)
Bridge volume (stock)
Neck bass cut (sacrifice tone control)
Bridge tone (stock)

Attached a few other schemes I’ve seen online. All sum the volume into one control. :(

Don't know why, but I'm reminded of this...
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

To further prove Sluckey's point i admit to having two base controls on a 335 copy and i like them very much but you really have to get the right capacitance to make it work. It is somewhere less than a nF for me.
I always hated too much base and with this tone control i do not have to worry about picking the E and A string too hard anymore. If this is wrong i don't want to be right.

Don't know why, but I'm reminded of this...

The first time I saw this image, my uncle, who was a preacher, was giving a message on marriage and sex.  :l2:
