4-1 selector switch for multiple preamps
« on: January 22, 2023, 08:39:51 am »
I want to build a switch that will let me select one of 4 preamps and send it to my DI box.  This is a rack mount project.  My worry is the signal grounds for all 4 and how to handle them.  The switching of the actual signal wires is easy.   Can I tie all the jacks grounds together, or should I also make the ground part of the switching arrangement and isolate the jacks?   The DI box does have a ground lift switch, which might help.  Looks like a 4 position rotary is my best choice?

Can I tie all the jacks grounds together...

Usually how it is done. You can do the quick-check with a fistful of clip-leads while monitoring any one preamp.
