Back in the day, the saying was that an Edsel looked like a Mercury sucking on a lemon.   Ugliest car ever is what I think.

I think the 2023 SUV that I just bought is much uglier than this Edsel. (OK, the Aztec may top it.) A lot of the 'scoops' and 'spoilers' and window shapes don't make sense. Three passengers in the back is a joke; in the Edsel it was ample back there.

This Edsel was a joke-gift from a daughter. (I wish I had a daughter who gifted whole cars.) Martha loved it. But Edsel had nothing to do with the Edsel. A truer tribute would be a Model A, mostly Edsel's styling.

Never cared for the Edsel however, it works better in wagon form for some reason. The plate on the front detracts from what has very little room for detraction. I'd take it though and enjoy it for sure!

No front plates in Michigan. And a LOT of Detroit cars look like they never heard of a front plate.

It is also absurd in a 1991 Mazda MX5 Miata, which is all smooth nose and an air hole hardly bigger than a license plate. There is an aftermarket "flip" plate holder which swings up at speed.

I found a '62 plate from CA along Route 66, HGW515, my mnemonics brain laughed (H-ome G-grown W-eed)
so it's been on my truck front for years.  pulled into a campground in TX, parked, walked in, said I had a reservation, they replied "we ran your plate, you're not registered"  thought that was creepy since they couldn't see my rear plate. the ranger was snotty, saying it was a felony to have a false plate.
I tried playing nice, she kept being snotty.  So I cancelled, paid the 1 day cancel fee and ask if there were any friendly campgrounds, near-by.

PRR   Mount Desert Island is not only a very cool place for Edsel Ford to have built a summer place, it also has some interesting history as well. 
In the AF we had an installation in Maine located near Presque Isle. I could never get stationed there but heard all about it from airmen that
would get assigned to our location in AZ. Maybe I can visit Maine before I pass.


Front plates IMHO aren't very cool,  and neither is the twice yearly back and forth of time. Would be nice to see them both gone.


The plate on that 1958 Edsel 2 door Roundup wagon looks like crap for sure..   also the back of those wagons is pretty cool as well

The Edsel came about because GM had car offerings for five levels of income/societal status: Chevy, Buick, Pontiac, (remember Pontiac?), Oldsmobile, and Cadillac.  Ford wanted in on that Buick slice of the market and the Edsel was their entry, for those somehow stuck between deciding to buy a Ford or a Mercury.  Not Well Received would be a charitable way to put it.      Ever since it's been just Ford, Mercury and Lincoln. 

(Not going to mention Jaguar and their "Taurus" saloon.  Nope, not gonna do it.)

house on the corner, ~ 1 mile down, just sold for $120,000 over market, they bought a 50 X100 barn, got 5 acres n a house for free 
had it re-wired for 350A service, big 'ol stepdown at the pole, all the hydroponic supply's showed up.  watched as the filled a 4 yard dumpster with the last harvest, did the math, $350,000 a year if it's 1/2 out the front, 1/2 out the back.  Gen Z got a whole new plan for not working hard.
