Multimeters
« on: April 10, 2023, 12:01:18 pm »
Hey guys (I tried a search first but all the links posted are "404")

Opinions please, what's the best "bang for the buck" meters on the market?
Sure I'd love a "Swiss army knife) benchtop model but a budget handheld means
the savings can be spent on other tools!

Klein MM700, rugged, accurate, does almost everything a Fluke 87V will do. I have both.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

I'm potentially interested in purchasing the MM700, but have a question: How loud is the beep? I know this question is subjective...

Just to give a little context. I've had my Radio Shack MM forever (it has a 9 pin RS-232 on it), it works great, and to me the beep is soft and just perfect. Fairly recently, I bought myself a second MM so that I could read multiple voltages simultaneously , but its beep was *painfully* loud. Tried everything to mute it, but finally ended up clipping off the piezo from the board.

Thanks.

Thanks men! That Klein sounds like a good deal.
The OL is always asking me what I want for my birthday.
This looks like a good one to put on the list.
(if I keep it under $100 she usually comes thru)  :l2: :icon_biggrin:

It's perfect!   :icon_biggrin:

I paid $96 in 11-2021 and felt it was a bargain. Even better bargain today!

I know my question was a Goldilock's one.

Waiter: And how do you want your steak done?
Goldilocks: Just right would be perfect thanks.
Cook:  Uh... I need more info...

Not only was the MM700 too loud (for my hears only), but it also beeped every time I turned the dial. I don't work in an industrial noisy environment. It's from my basement. Quiet is good for me. So I returned it.

Based on YouTube demos and customer reviews, I'll be getting a Fluke 115 tomorrow. Almost got a Fluke 17B+, but found out that the manufacturer warranty wasn't guaranteed in the US, I believe the market is for Asia. And out of 206 customer reviews on this Amazon page, only two originated in the US... Plus the vendor didn't know...

Received the Fluke 115 last night. It's perfect  :icon_biggrin: (for me  :icon_biggrin:). Not too hot, not too cold.  :icon_biggrin:

Doesn't have the specs or the functionality of the 87v or the mm700 (let alone the bang for the buck on the later), but perfectly fits my needs and my ergonomic preferences.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. Take care.
