Ideas to mod one of my amps.
« on: April 15, 2023, 03:13:50 pm »
A few years ago I decided to build an amp that was part Marshall Plexi and part 800. Sluckey came up with the basic design of the amp but I couldn’t leave well enough alone.

Just came off building three Dumble’s so I of course thought it would be a good idea to add the Dumble overdrive to it. Not satisfied with that I added a D’lator which is essentially an active effects loop. As a final step a LarMar master volume needed to be included.

One of my favorite Dumble builds was the HRM. I can turn off the overdrive or the D’lator and have either the Plexi or the 800. I always wanted a Plexi when I was growing up but I am considering turning the 800 into a HRM channel. That a great amp.

Another choice is changing the overdrive channel into something the young crowd would appreciate.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You're not the first person to pursue the elusive an all in one amp. No such thing IMO. Why not just set up a pedalboard to get the sounds you're after, or build some different amps?
A bus stops at a bus station. A train stops at a train station. On my desk, I have a work station.

More of an experiment than anything else. Your conclusion is similar to mine but I was hoping someone had successfully accomplished what I would like to do.

There seems to be a few people actively building up the vintage mesa boogie amps.

There's an idea. 5, 6, 7, anode followers cascaded, and transistor powered graphic EQ. I'm half tempted myself, lol.
