Leslie 16/Vibratone Ideas and Questions
« on: April 24, 2023, 09:19:07 am »
Had a Leslie 16 back when I was way younger.  Got the itch again, and found one.
The unit is stock, with the Crossover and the cabling, and the 10" cone.
The one I had back in the day was modified to be just a Passive Speaker Jack, to power with another amp. And a simple fast/slow type footswitching. Always on.
That's kinda what I'd like to do to this critter that I got.
Figured I'd ask around here, as I get how to covert it, but wondered if anybody had other thoughts. Not only in implementation but also regarding the settling RPM speeds of the Drum, to possibly tweak a little if necessary.  Not really looking for Pulse Wave Mod, or any of that jazz. But all info is welcome. I've combed the site pretty good, and many folks have done what I'm proposing. But nobody provided a dummy proof guide on how to eliminate some stuff and keep it simple.
I have a Leslie 120 that I love, and it does the do in the configuration I described above. But would like to haul this around instead, as the projection doesn't stay horizontal across the floor.
Thanks in advance.

Maybe this will give you some ideas...

A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Sluckey, this is beyond idea giving. This is the speed my Bwains needed. Thanks profusely.

In the past I've used 12V relays to switch the 120V terminals. I went that route to try and suppress motor switching transients and Switch Terminal pop. Snub caps ought to help, like you've mentioned.
Think I'll give it a whirl.  Thanks

For your DPDT stomps, you mentioned a sturdy variant.  Any particular part in mind?  Or, just a quality 250VAC/10A kinda deal?

Thanks again.

I used these Carling 125VAC/3A switches. So far I've been happy with no snubber caps on the switches. Might be different if a high gain amp or microphones are nearby.

Worked a charm. Little mechanical calibration involved. But sorted. Went with 3 pin power con connector and cable, with slow motor AC/fast motor AC/neutral on it. Neutral heads to the main control box on the unit, using its fuse, and on to both motors AC. The control box I just flipped around 180 so it can still go back to “stock”
Pedal has IEC and grounds there (no ground to box on unit).
Speaker jack on box on unit (non isolated jack)

Thanks so much for the assist, just my speed!
